The Magee Marsh checklist says White Pelicans here are rare. We saw 8 overhead on my 11am bird walk this morning.

The Red-headed Woodpecker is bot as unusual but thisone was stunning in the afternoon sun.

On this bhirdiest of bird days, hundreds of birders saw thousands of birders.

This Black-billed Cuckoo was one of several along the Magee Marsh Boardwalk today. An overnight storm had brought in plenty of migrating birds to this south shore of Lake Erie. Indigo Buntings, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, thrushes, vireos and warblers were all around us.

The Magee Marsh Boardwalk is one continuous stream of birding and birders during the spring festival here in Ohio. A PIB guide made a late afternoon sighting of a Long-eared Owl (aided by screaming Robins) and brought over 100 birders speeding to the spot, clearing the rest of the boardwalk. Visual proof:

There is nothing plain about black and white.

There are numerous Black and White Warblers here at Magee Marsh in northwestern Ohio. On migration they are on constant alert for possible prey, even curious birders get a quick look. Today was the official start of Birding’s Biggest Week and the PIB was helping fellow birders find the great warblers and vireos all around us. Mopst of us will see at least two dozenb species of warblers before this event wraps up.
